'Whoever wishes to become
great among you must be your servant... For the Son of Man came not to be
served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.' St
Mark 10.43, 45
In our age of
self-glorification and self-absorption, Jesus calls his followers to live a
servant-style life. He whose life and death challenges the powers that
are, and questions all "lording over" others and misuses of authority, has these
words for us to take to heart: be a servant of God's love to
everyone.
We'll sing it again on
Sunday:
Lord, whose love in
humble service
Bore the weight of human
need.
Who upon the cross,
forsaken,
Worked your mercy's
perfect deed.
We, your servants, bring
the worship
Not of voice alone, but
heart;
Consecrating to your
purpose
Every gift which you
impart.
"By the power of
the Holy Spirit, we will utilize all our God given gifts to welcome and connect
all people in loving relationships with Jesus Christ, each other, and our
community." (Redeemer's vision statement)

hallmark of the Christian, and a joyful privilage of God's people. Help us
meet this goal!

'Barnyard Buddies'. Through LCMS World Relief, families in Vietnam get

the old Lutheran Hymnal as our liturgy. The color is red, so wear
something red to church to help celebrate. Also remember to change
your clocks on Saturday night before going to bed as we say
goodbye to daylight savings time: Fall Back one hour!! Extra
sleep--HOORAY!! Can't wait to see all of you bright-eyed and well-rested
that morning!
MAC 'N CHEESE
MOUNTAIN is growing steadily, and with your help we should
easily top our goal of 2,000 boxes this coming Sunday. The more the
better, because there are a lot of hungry families in our region. This is
an Interfaith Food Drive event in conjunction with 'Make A
Difference Day'. Thank you all for your generosity!
THIS SUNDAY AFTER
CHURCH: All those who are interested in helping create our
'Days of Joy Christmas Community Outreach
Event' in December, please meet with Paul Schutz and Fred Gargiulo in
the sanctuary immediately following our worship on Sunday, Oct 22.
Don't worry--we'll save some Oktoberfest sausages for you!
In this transition to wintry
weather, remember those who are cold and hungry as you haul out your coats, turn
up your thermostats, and enjoy nice hot food. "As you have done it to the
least of these my brothers and sisters, you have done it to me," Jesus
says. Words for a servant-style life.
