'Go away from me, Lord,
for I am a sinful man!' St Luke 5.8
Jesus
tells his tired and discouraged fishermen-disciples to let down their
nets in the Sea of Galilee. There follows a tremendous catch
of fish. Amazed and awed, Peter falls on his knees before Jesus,
responding with personal self-judgment.
Jesus says to Peter,
"Don't be afraid."
We can be pretty hard on
ourselves sometimes. Jesus warned against judging others. I think
that here he also sees the damage we can do when we judge ourselves.
Abundant self-criticism often leads to despair. "Don't be afraid."
It's a gospel word of abundant assurance. Let's go fishing in the ocean of
God's grace.
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY

- Souper Bowl Sunday: Following
worship we'll have the privilege of contributing a buck or more to 3
bowls--Union Gospel Mission, Salvation Army, and Marion Polk Food Share.
- Prayer Shawl / Lap
Robe Sunday: Our super group of knitters and
crocheters have provided an abundance of hand-made shawls. We have
distributed them to our shut-ins and some of our elderly. But we have
many more, so now we invite YOU to choose a shawl / lap robe as a
reminder of God's love and the love of Redeemer congregation. They will
be laid out on the big table after worship. Please feel free to take
one--it's a gift from loving hearts and loving hands.
CONSECRATED STEWARDS
BIBLE STUDIES: A series of 4 special Bible studies will be
offered beginning Feb. 25. We truly hope that ALL members
of Redeemer will participate in these 4 weeks of Bible study together.
Please commit now to attending these studies, offered in the following
venues: Sunday morning, either in my class or Paul Schutz's
class. Friday morning, led by Roy Tulee. Our youth will also
be doing these studies on Sunday mornings, led by Jan Shearer.

Tuesday: Shrove Tuesday pancake feed. Sign up on
sheet on main bulletin board.

Wednesday: Worship opportunities at 12
noon and 7pm, with Imposition of Ashes
and Communion offered at both. OFF group will meet for potluck and
fellowship right after the noon worship.
- Feb. 28, March 7, 14,
21, and 28: Midweek Lenten Vespers at 7pm,
preceded at 6pm by our Soup and Bread Suppers
- March 18, Consecration
