Isn't it revealing that God
created us with one mouth and two ears? But we do better talking than we
do listening. As we approach Lent, what better time to rein in our busy
tongues and sharpen our listening skills. Not just hearing, but
listening. There's a big difference. We hear with our ears,
but we really listen with our whole beings.
LENT BEGINS NEXT
WEDNESDAY, FEB. 21: On the holy day of Ash Wednesday, we
offer two opportunities for worship: 12 noon and
7pm. Both will include Imposition of Ashes and Holy
Communion.
MIDWEEK LENTEN
VESPERS will be offered on Wednesdays at 7 - 7:45pm during
Lent. My preaching theme for these special services will be "Lord,
Teach Us to Pray: Great Prayers from the Christian Tradition." Each
MLV will be preceded at 6pm by our popular Soup and Bread Suppers.
SHROVE
TUESDAY: Historically, this was the day to get rid of all
the fat from homes, before beginning the traditional Lenten fasting the next
day, Ash Wednesday. That's what Mardi Gras means in French: 'fat
Tuesday'. One of the ways past generations would use up the fat at home
was through pancakes. We invite you to enjoy hotcakes at our
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Feed on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at
6pm here at church! Bring the family, bring friends. But
please indicate on the sign-up sheet posted on the main bujlletin board that you
are coming. Thanks!
CONSECRATED
STEWARDS is a stewardship emphasis that works on the Biblical
principle of the need of the giver to give, not the need of the church to
receive. Our Leadership Team has been busy preparing for the Program
Phase which begins on Sunday, Feb. 25, and ends with Consecration Sunday on
March 18. Please set aside March 18 as a very
important day to be in church for worship and
a celebration luncheon. Find out more by talking with anyone on
the Leadership Team: Dave Resinger, Tim and Jan Shearer, Charlie Jacobs, Serrena
Westerfield, Pastor and Diane Brauer. Please pray for this Biblically
based emphasis within our congregation.
CONSECRATED STEWARDS
BIBLE STUDIES: As a vital part of CS, we are offering
four successive Sundays of special Bible studies,
beginning Feb. 25. Our goal is to have as many members of
Redeemer participate in these studies as possible. Perfect timing to make
a commitment to these studies as part of your Lenten discipline!

Portland, while Beth works in the Salem office of Northwest Seniors and
