Let the same mind be in
you that was in Christ Jesus...' Philippians
2.5
These words of St Paul are
staggering in their implications. To have the 'mind of Christ'--that is
indeed an awesome encouragement! How is that
possible?
Notice that Paul says, 'LET
the same mind be in you...' In other words, it is the Spirit's
work to form within us the mind of Christ. 'Let it happen,' Paul
says. Day by day, week by week, year by year, the Spirit is at work deep
within our hearts and souls and minds, shaping our wills, our attitudes, our
words and deeds, to more clearly reflect the mind of Christ Jesus
himself.
A few verses farther on in
this chapter, Paul says: 'It is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to
will and to work for his good pleasure.'
HOLY WEEK
BEGINS this coming Sunday, the Sunday of the Passion / Palm
Sunday. After Education Hour, please gather for
worship in the oak table room by the kitchen. There you will be
given a palm branch, and it is there that we begin our worship with the
Procession of Palms, through the opened folding doors and into the
sanctuary. Symbolically, this sanctuary becomes our 'Jerusalem', in
imitation of Jesus' own entry into Jerusalem long ago. With him we journey
to the Last Supper and to his crucifixion. On Easter we gather again to
raise our worship to the risen Christ.
