'All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.' Acts 2.4
This coming Sunday we celebrate the Day of Pentecost. Following Jesus' ascension, the Spirit came upon his followers just as Jesus had promised. Pentecost offers us a breathtaking panorama of how the Christian church has penetrated nearly every part of our world. Here at Redeemer, we are invited by this panorama to see ourselves as a link in the worldwide Church, joined by the Spirit with brothers and sisters of every language on earth, all of us called by the Spirit to "lift high the Cross, the love of Christ proclaim, 'til all the world adores his sacred name."
SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC ON JUNE 3: Following worship on Sunday, June 3, we hope you will join us for our celebration picnic, with a potluck (see newsletter or bulletin for details) and games for all ages.
ADULT BIBLE CLASSES: During Summer months (June 10 - Labor Day weekend), the Sunday morning adult Bible classes will continue to meet as usual, at 8:50 - 9:45am.
NEW MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY: A new directory was placed in your church mailbox last week. If you have not picked yours up, please do so. Also, please check the information under your name. If there is a mistake, notify Sandy immediately in the church office and she will publish the corrections.
SOUP SERVING ON JUNE 10: Once again Redeemer has the joy of serving lunch (soup, bread, dessert, beverage) to the homeless at Jason Lee United Methodist Church, on Sunday, June 10, from 12 noon - 2pm. If you are interested in helping, please talk with Bev Stueven or Etta Mae Hitchcock.
ELECTION OF NEW OFFICERS AND COUNCIL MEMBERS will take place at our June 24 Congregational Meeting. Between now and then, our Nominations Committee will be identifying people to serve in various positions. If you are asked to serve, please consider it carefully and with prayer.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL is scheduled for June 25 - 29. Pat Haneberg is organizing it, and would appreciate it if you can help. Snacks, helpers, kitchen workers, teachers, games, etc. are all jobs needing to be done for this major outreach into our community.
2ND FLOOR GRANT COMMITTEE: This committee continues to seek social service agencies as partners in our vision to reach out into the community. Currently, discussions are being held with Lutheran Community Services Northwest, but there are other potential partners that could occupy the 2nd floor space. Please continue to pray that the Spirit will guide us and give us success in finding the right partner for our joint endeavor to minister to the NE Salem area.
NEW OFFICE HOURS: Starting on June 1 the office hours will change to Mon.-Thurs. as Sandy will not be working on Fridays.
'By the power of the Holy Spirit, we will utilize all our God-given gifts to welcome and connect all people in loving relationships with Jesus Christ, each other, and our community.' Redeemer's Vision Statement
