God
brought Abram outside and said, ‘Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you
are able…’ Genesis
15.5
An
optometrist once told me during an exam of my eyes that the most relaxing and
therapeutic thing anyone could do for their eyes is to go outside at evening,
lie down on a chaise lounge, and simply look into the sky for a few
minutes.
Easy
to say, tough to do. Why? Because we’re so preoccupied with things
that are close at hand, and the muscles of our eyes work overtime focusing on
all these ‘necessary’ things. Long
ago, God taught Abram a gentle lesson by telling him to ‘Look up’. That lesson? To rest our lives in God’s love and
trust his promises completely.
OUTDOOR
WORSHIP / SUMMERFEST: We begin
our Summerfest celebration and community outreach event by gathering outside
under the trees on the Lancaster side of our building, at 10am. Bring your sunglasses, lawn chairs,
coffee or water bottles, and remember to dress casually and appropriately for
the weather that morning. Please leave the front row of chairs open for those in
our congregation who have mobility problems, walkers, canes, etc.
Following
our worship, we have an entire afternoon to welcome our community to the music,
games, food, and displays that our Summerfest Task Force has put together so
ably. Remember to invite your
neighbors, friends, family to join you for the
event!
BEV
STUEVEN MEMORIAL SERVICE will be Wednesday, August 8, at 11am here at
Redeemer. Our worship will be followed by a light
lunch. Memorial gifts may be made
to Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bev’s name.
This information should have gone out early Monday morning, but a
computer glitch kept emails from being sent or received from Sandy’s
computer. That problem is now
fixed, and hopefully you got a separate message from the office about Bev’s
service tomorrow.
NEWSPAPER
DROP BOX AND FOOD BARREL: Please
continue to ‘feed’ these regularly.
All proceeds from the recycling of newspapers goes toward Lutheran World
Hunger; and Marion Polk Food Share is always in need of food items with which to
help alleviate hunger in our area.
THANK
YOU
for
your cards and kind words to my mother.
She and Dad asked me to express their thanks to all of you for your cards
and prayers on their behalf. Mom is
now on hospice care and resting comfortably, without pain. She is happy and content, and knows that
the Lord is her shepherd.
