‘Bless
the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!’ Psalm
103.1
Our
Creator God has ‘programmed’ us to live lives of joy and praise. That is our real intention in life. But human sin distorts God’s intentions
and disfigures our lives with all sorts of things that turn us into whiners,
complainers, and grumblers. One of
the great purposes of worship is to uplift us, remind us of Jesus the joy of
life, and invite us to lay our burdens and sins at the Cross. See you Sunday
morning!!
NEW
SUNDAY ADULT COURSE: On
Sunday, Sept. 9, I’ll
begin a new course entitled “Jesus and the
Gospels”. This course is
DVD-based. Each week, we’ll view a
30 minute presentation, leaving us the remainder of the time for
discussion. As the title suggests,
the course centers on the person of Jesus as he is presented in the gospels of
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. I
think this will be an interesting and stimulating course, and I hope you plan on
joining us each week, beginning Sept. 9.
BIG
THANK YOU!! I want
to remind us all to say “Thanks!” to each other for all the many ways that we,
together, serve the Lord in our congregation. This week I want to spotlight the
terrific work that Pancho Cervantes and Pat Haneberg do in order to keep our
church grounds looking good. Pat
mows the lawn (and thanks also to those who spell her occasionally!), and Pancho
keeps the weeds down, the gophers scurrying, and shrubs pruned (among other
things). THANK
YOU!!!!
FOOD
BARREL: A
reminder that hunger takes no holidays, and the Food Barrel at church is always
in need of fresh supplies so we can continue to pass food on to Marion Polk Food
Share for distribution to the poor and needy in our area. Thanks for your support and
donations!
NORTHWEST
PARISH NURSE MINISTRIES
will be
hosting a fund-raising banquet on October 20, 6 – 9pm, at the U. of
Portland. This year’s theme is
‘Health and Humor’, and the entire evening should be great fun. Diane and I will be hosting a table, and
would love to have you join us. Let
me know if you are interested. The
banquet and program are free, but naturally there will be an opportunity to
pledge financial support of this ministry that has meant so much to so many
congregations over the past 20 years.
Footnote: we are looking into a small grant to help Redeemer begin parish
nurse ministry. See Bob Kosta to
learn more.

A
PERSONAL NOTE OF THANKS
to
you, the good people of Redeemer, for all your cards, kind words, and support
for our family upon the death of my mother, Virginia Brauer. We are most grateful for your love and
care. Although my father, Norman,
will be transferring his membership to Hope Lutheran, Woodburn, he asks that I
convey his sincere thanks for the Christ-like way in which you welcomed and
embraced him and Virginia during their years here at Redeemer. Please keep my father in your
prayers. Today, August 22, would
have been their 64th wedding
anniversary.
