‘As
for those who in the present age are rich…they are to do good, to be rich in
good works, generous, and ready to share…so that they may take hold of the life
that really is life.’ 1 Timothy
6.17 – 19
As
Christians, we must constantly be re-examining our relationship with money. Our checkbooks reveal what is truly
important to us. One of the
primary, consistent themes of the entire Bible is that God will take care of us
in his love, and that we are to see money as a servant, not a master, and that
God desires us to use our money in order to contribute to good causes in the
world, especially those that support directly the poor, hungry, and displaced.
JANITORIAL
SERVICE: Many of
you have pledged to financially support a cleaning service for our church. With your commitments, a contract has
been drawn up with Total Solutions, and as soon as the contributions begin
coming in, this business will begin.
Please use the Special Offering envelopes for this. And remember that this is giving
which is above and beyond your pledge to the general
budget!
CONGREGATIONAL
MEETING THIS COMING SUNDAY: We’ll
make it as quick as possible, so please stay for the meeting right after worship
on Sunday. Agenda items:
support
for Redeemer Vietnamese congregation…licensing Bob Kosta as a deacon here at
Redeemer…and raises for Redeemer Preschool
teachers.
‘JESUS
AND THE GOSPELS’
is the
title of a new, DVD-based class now in process on Sunday mornings. After a 30 minutes lecture, we discuss
what we’ve viewed and heard. This
college level course is an excellent learning opportunity to grow in our
understanding of the heart of our Christian faith, Jesus, and how he is
presented in the four gospels. Grab
some coffee and get comfortable in the Commons Room. Time: 8:45am
sharp.
ONGOING
AMBASSADORS FOR CHRIST: This
youth-based group will be with us for the weekend of October
12 – 14, as a
joyful outreach and witnessing emphasis in our neighborhood. We need host homes to keep these youth
overnight on Friday and Saturday.
Please open your hearts and homes, and sign up on the sheet posted on the
bulletin board. Questions? Call Paul and Jonet
Schutz.
FOOD
DRIVE CULMINATES THIS COMING SUNDAY: Marion
Polk Food Share is at a dangerously low level of food stocks, so we implore you
to be extra generous in bringing food items to church. Need special incentive? “This One’s for You, Bev!” In loving memory of Bev Stueven, we hope
to gather the largest amount of food ever here at Redeemer. Please participate!
Thanks.
