Pastor Joels mid week reminders for May 18, 2010
This entry was posted on 5/20/2010 7:22 PM and is filed under Mid-Week Reminders.
'You send
forth your spirit, and you renew the face of the earth.' Psalm 104.30
Pentecost Sunday celebrates the gift of the Spirit of
God to all the earth. Through the Holy Spirit, we receive the gift of
faith. But the Spirit of God is up to so much more: nothing less than
renewing the earth. In our Creed, we confess the Spirit to be the
'giver of life'--the faith life, and also the vibrant life force that
energizes every living creature. "The earth is full of your creatures;
in wisdom you have made them all," this same Psalm declares.
In the Spirit, God calls us not only to faith but also to faithful
stewardship of God's creation. Caring for life on earth is a vital
part of our Spirit-led lives of faith.
DEDICATION OF OUR COMMUNITY GARDEN
THIS SUNDAY: Our Pentecost worship will be filled
with images and songs relating to the fertility and goodness of the
earth. Because of the probability of weather difficulties, we will
dedicate our garden at the end of our worship time, instead of
processing out to the garden area. The members of our community garden
task force will assist me in this joyful occasion of blessing seeds,
soil, and water as together we praise God for this wonderful
opportunity of mission to our community! We hope you are planning to
be here for an uplifting Sunday worship experience! (Wear something red, the color for this Sunday
PASTOR'S SUNDAY ADULT CLASS:
This Sunday, we return to our weekly study and discussion of the
assigned Bible readings for Sunday worship. Because our regular
meeting area in the Commons Room is now sealed off due to the car crash
May 5, we will use the Holy Footprints room, just down the hallway from
the Library.
BUILDING
DAMAGE UPDATE: We are
deeply grateful that the Lord spared the life of the woman whose car
went out of control and smashed into the north end of our building on
May 5. She walked away without a scratch. The building has been
shored up and stabilized, the insurance adjuster has viewed the damage,
we have a letter from our insurance company assuring us of full
coverage, the rubble is being cleaned up and hauled away, and bids have
come in from contractors for repairing the extensive damage. Please
continue to pray for all who are involved in restoring the building.
VACATION BIBLE
SCHOOL CANCELLED: Because of the damage to the
north end of our building, and the restoration work that will take
place this Summer, the Council has decided that for several good
reasons we will have to cancel VBS this year, scheduled for June
21-25. The safety of the children is most important.
SOUP KITCHEN SERVING OPPORTUNITY:
Redeemer is scheduled to serve soup to the
homeless on Sunday, June 6, from 12:30 - 3pm.
The soup kitchen is in St Mark Lutheran Church, near the capitol
building. This is a wonderful opportunity to serve the homeless of our
community. Please talk with Lorene Bartell or Etta Mae Hitchcock for
details.
