'O Lord, our Sovereign, how majestic is your name in all the earth!  ...When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them?'  Psalm 8.1, 3-4

The Hubble telescope, orbiting our earth, has given us astounding photos of the universe.  Along with earth-based telescopes, our generation is blessed with beautiful pictures of deep sky objects that leave us utterly speechless at the work of our creating God.

When David wrote Psalm 8, he had nothing but his own two eyes to gaze up at the moon and stars in the night sky.  Yet even this filled him with a sense of wonder at the grandeur of God's creation beyond the earth.

As better weather approaches and the promise of summer warmth leads us outdoors, make it a habit to look up in the evening.  Stars begin to appear as the twilight deepens.  Perhaps you can even pick out a few planets, if you know where to look for them.  Or when it's dark, a streaking meteor might flash across the star studded sky.

Tear yourself away from the computer and TV.  Go outside, lift your head, be still, and let this truth sink into your inmost being: God is great, God is good, God made this vast universe filled with beauty...and God not only created me, but he knows my name and loves me with an everlasting love.  Make the sign of the cross over yourself and whisper: "In the name of God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Amen."

FIFTH SUNDAY GIVING OPPORTUNITY:  The month of May provides us with 5 Sundays.  Many of us who write a check to Redeemer Lutheran Church once a month, rather than giving on a weekly basis, may want to welcome a 5th Sunday when it occurs during any given month as a special opportunity to give a little more the the Lord.  I want to encourage you to do so. Redeemer has been running a deficit for many months now, and that deficit is increasing.  How about using the 5th Sunday to help us recover some of that deficit?

PLEASE REMEMBER that our custom when worship is over here at Redeemer is to honor all those with mobility challenges to leave the sanctuary first with their canes and walkers and wheelchairs.  If you must leave in a hurry, then please use the side aisles to exit and leave the main aisle open.  Thanks!

PASTOR'S SUNDAY ADULT CLASS:  During the summer months, Pastor will lead a study and discussion of the assigned Bible readings for Sunday worship.  Because our regular meeting area in the Commons Room is now sealed off due to the car crash May 5, we will use the Holy Footprints room, just down the hallway from the Library.  Coffee is available near the kitchen.  Join us for a lively discussion and time of fellowship and learning!

BUILDING DAMAGE UPDATE:   The building has been shored up and stabilized, the insurance adjuster has viewed the damage, we have a letter from our insurance company assuring us of full coverage, the rubble is being cleaned up and hauled away, and bids have come in from contractors for repairing the extensive damage.  Please continue to pray for all who are involved in restoring the building.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL CANCELLED:  Because of the damage to the north end of our building, and the restoration work that will take place this Summer, the Council has decided that for several good reasons we will have to cancel VBS this year, scheduled for June 21-25.  The safety of the children is most important.

SOUP KITCHEN SERVING OPPORTUNITY:  Redeemer is scheduled to serve soup to the homeless on Sunday, June 6, from 12:30 - 3pm.  The soup kitchen is in St Mark Lutheran Church, near the capitol building.  This is a wonderful opportunity to serve the homeless of our community.  Please talk with Lorene Bartell or Etta Mae Hitchcock for details.

SANCTUARY SOUND SYSTEM:
This week our sound system will be thoroughly analyzed so that corrections and repairs can be made.  Please be patient as we strive to improve the sound quality for our worship services.
