Pastor Joel's Midi-week reminders for 2/22/2011

'...I
will
not forget you. See, I have inscribed you on the palms of
my hands.'
Isaiah 49.15-16
More
and more research is appearing on the subject of memory loss
and brain
health. We forget people's names, phone numbers, events,
where we put
our glasses and keys, our relatives' birthdays, even what we
ate for
dinner last night. And plenty of funny jokes have used
memory loss as
the subject!
After we've had a good laugh about our memory losses, it's
good to
remember this: God never forgets us. Many people will say
that God
isn't interested in the details of our lives. I disagree,
on the basis
of what Scripture tells us of God's nature. Jesus told us
that God
knows the number of hairs on our heads. If God cares that
much about
us, how much more will he not remember us in our moments of
grief and
sorrow, our times of struggle and defeat, our pain and our
fears.
We are never alone, never forgotten. Even though we
lose
track of life's details, one thing we can
always remember: God will never fail or forsake us. We are
written
indelibly on the palms of his hand. And he has inscribed
the sign of
his Son's cross on our hearts.
PLEASE
REMEMBER that
after worship ends,
we want to provide time and room for those people with
canes, walkers,
and wheelchairs to exit the sanctuary first. Feel
free to offer your
help to them. If you must leave in a hurry, please
use the side aisles
as you exit.
PASTOR JOEL'S
ADULT SUNDAY CLASS: We continue
our ongoing
topic, "Practicing Our Faith", with a discussion of
'Forgiveness'. Please join us in the Commons Room for
this guided discussion
class based on powerful Christian ways of living
out our faith in the
world. We meet from 8:50 - 9:45am. Coffee and
refreshments are
available.
WEEKLY
WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY: All
women are welcome to
participate. The group meets each Tuesday
from 12:45 - 1:45pm in the
Library here at church. Come for good study,
discussion, prayer, and
fellowship. Questions: contact Elva Binder.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: Lorene Bartell
is
our liaison. Please talk with her if you want to attend the
Habitat
dinner and auction
here in Salem on this coming Saturday evening, Feb. 26. As in
past
years, Redeemer is donating a
basket for auction. This year's basket will feature 'An
Italian
Dinner', and if you would like to contribute some item or a
check
towards purchase of items for this basket, please see Lorene.
ALL OFFICER POSITIONS WILL BE VACANT
at the time of our Budget and Election
Congregational Meeting on June 26. A nominating committee has
begun
work on finding candidates for these positions: President,
Vice
President (currently vacant), Treasurer, and recording
Secretary
(currently vacant). After many terms of
service, both our Treasurer (Etta Mae Hitchcock) and President
(Paul
Schutz) are moving on to other areas of service. So please
begin to
think and pray for candidates to fill all these offices.
VOLUNTEER
LABOR
NEEDED UPSTAIRS: Our permits
expire
in early May, and there is still much work to be done upstairs
before
that deadline. If you can help, please talk with Al Binder,
Randy
Giesbers, Eric Westerfield, or others on our Properties
Board. You
don't have to be skilled--much of the work can be learned and
mastered
quickly. Our thanks to all who have put in many hours of work
helping
to complete these projects!!
