'Make me to know your ways, O Lord.'  Psalm 25.4

The image of life as a journey is taken from many references in the Bible, including this simple passage from Psalm 25.  In the early years after Christ's resurrection, followers of Jesus were known not as Christians, but rather as People of the Way.  Every path leads somewhere, but all paths of human existence lead from birth to death.  The great question of all religions is who we are and what we become as we follow that path.

Jesus reminds us, "I am the Truth, and the Life, and the Way."  Notice the strong metaphor:  "I am the Way."  Not, "I will show you the way", but rather "I am the way."  So the answer to the Psalmist's request, "make me to know your ways, O Lord", finds its answer in the person of Jesus.  Know Jesus, know the way.  And it's much more than just head knowledge.  It's intimacy with Christ.  It's deep fellowship in Christ's love, compassion, and healing power.  It's a total way of life that encompasses every aspect of who we are and what we do and how we think.

OPPORTUNITY FOR INDIVIDUAL PRAYERS OF HEALING THIS SUNDA
Y, SEPTEMBER 25:  All of us search for wholeness and well-being in our life journeys, but there is so much that brings brokenness to our lives.  During worship on this coming Sunday, you will have opportunity to privately request prayers for healing.  As is our practice, I will make myself available for your requests during Communion.  Please feel free to approach me near the Baptismal font and share with me your personal need for healing in any area of your life.  That could mean physical health, emotional health, relationships, financial burdens, crises, feelings of loss, job difficulties, communication problems, family issues, in other words just about anything in your life that is of deep concern to you.  And please remember that everything you share with me will be held in complete confidentiality.

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS WORKSHOP:  Sunday, October 16, right after worship and potluck.  Please let Jonet Schutz, our Faith Community Health Minister, know if you can attend this 90 minute workshop led by Arlene Janssens, former Deaconness at St John Lutheran Church.  Look for more details in forthcoming issue of the Spirit Call newsletter.  There will also be a Sign Up Sheet posted on the main bulletin board.

FALLEN OFF THE EMAIL LIST?  Occasionally some names are randomly eliminated by our computer server from the congregational email list.  If you are no longer receiving regular emails from the office (including prayer requests, Midweek Reminders, etc.), please call the office.  Otherwise, we have no way of knowing who is and who isn't receiving our emails.

10 MOST WANTED FOODS FOR MARION POLK FOOD SHARE:  Thank you all so much for continuing to bring food for the enormous amounts of hungry people in our Salem area!  Please remember the 10 most basic foods MPFS asks for:  soup...chili...mac and cheese...cereal...peanut butter...tuna...canned fruit...canned vegetables...pasta sauce...pasta.   Bring your food items to worship with you and place them in the red wagon by our worship area.

Also, thanks for your contributions to our own small food pantry, under the direction of Kathy Lisle.  There is a separate and clearly labeled green bin for the same foods for our food pantry.
