Pastor Joel's Mid-Week Reminders for 1/18/2012

'For God
alone my soul waits in silence, for my hope is in him.'
Psalm 65.5
Leaping forward 3,000 years from the time
this Psalm
was written, we see how astonishingly relevant the words
remain. The
Psalmist goes on from this verse to offer his wisdom: "Put
no
confidence in extortion, and set no vain hopes on robbery;
if riches
increase, do not set your heart on them. Trust in God at
all times, O
people..."
With the shaking of our modern social foundations causing
all kinds of
stress and worry--and I have in mind the global economy, the
growing
gap between the very rich and poor, the new spiritualities
challenging
traditional forms of faith, the strains that 7 billion
people are
putting on the earth's resources--this call to trust in God
alone rings
true to our ears and hearts. Note: "Trust in God at
all times,
O people." Not just when things are going smoothly, not
just when we
feel like it, but at all times.
How are things going for you? At all times God is with us,
God's
purposes are being worked out, and we are invited to be
still and
commend our entire lives into his hands. God will not fail
his people.
For this Psalm ends with the words, "Power belongs to God,
and
steadfast love belongs to the Lord."
